A regenerative medicine specialist treats patients who suffer from organ and tissue diseases, strokes, loss of limbs, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, heart attacks, eye defects, painful diseases, arthritis, chronic pain, neurological disorders and even mental health issues. A specialist utilizes various techniques in order to regenerate these damaged or dying cells or tissues. This can be as simple as applying a drug or gel to an affected organ or tissue or performing surgery to move or remove a diseased tissue. Some forms of regenerative medicine are direct transplant, tissue culture, organ and tissue transplants, genetic engineering, biotechnology and cell therapy. One type of regenerative medicine uses the study of the development factors or triggers that promote the growth of new cells or tissues. It includes animal and human studies and the application of growth factors such as hormones, antibiotics and vitamins. Hormone therapy such as testosterone is used to treat testosterone deficiencies in humans. Bacterial infections are treated using antibacterial compounds. Direct injection of growth factors into the site of the injury stimulates the growth factor responsible for tissue repair.

Another form of regenerative medicine is tissue engineering which is the production of organs and tissue by living cells. In this case, there is no need for any additional surgeries. The tissues are prepared for implantation into the patient’s own body. Tissue engineering has revolutionized modern medicine by producing whole body tissues and organs.

Direct cell therapies, stem cells and induced cell therapies are the three major forms of regenerative medicine. Direct cell therapies are performed with the use of needles and other devices under local anesthetic. Induced cell therapies can be performed at home by harvesting healthy umbilical cord blood and storing it for later use. Stem cells harvested from the adult body are used for generating new adult stem cells.

One form of regenerative medicine is known as bioprocessing. It involves harvesting adult human cells for use in treating disease and injuries. These cells are then put in a petri dish containing a culture medium. Different types of diseases and injuries can be treated through the application of tissue building blocks produced by these cells.

Many forms of therapies are used for the treatment of diseases and injuries resulting from natural causes and events. A person suffering from a heart disease can undergo treatments through cardiovascular rehabilitation that include exercise, diet control and medications. Muscle and joint therapies are also being developed to treat patients with injuries caused by falls, arthritis and other joint problems.
